Lambeg’s young singing star takes top honours

A 13-year old singer from Lambeg has taken top honours in the Belfast Heat of a Northern Ireland wide singing completion organised by the Credit Union movement.

Megan McGarry impressed the judges at the heat of the CU Factor 2012 with her rendition of ‘Someone Else’s Story’ from Chess and now progresses to the final in May. It is her second time entering the largest singing competition for young people in Northern Ireland.

Megan will now compete with 14 other finalists drawn from heats being held in Derry, Omagh, Armagh and Portglenone. The final takes place in the Burnavon Theatre, Cookstown on May 12.

Congratulating Megan on her success, organiser Deirdre Mayo said: “In 2012 we are showing that there is plenty of singing talent in Northern Ireland and and it is an honour to give young people like Megan an opportunity to showcase their talent.

“The reaction to the competition gets better and better each year. This year our Facebook page has generated a renewed interest in the event and has seen entries surpass those of previous years.

“We are now one of the largest community events in Northern Ireland and a highlight in the calendar for our young singing stars. What is particularly encouraging is that this year we saw a number of singers in Belfast who have competed before, but in the true tradition of showbusiness have improved their acts and come back again,” concluded Deirdre.
