Lambs seized during policing operation in Mallusk

As part of an ongoing operation aimed at tackling rural and agricultural crime, police officers have seized more than 30 lambs from a field in Newtownabbey.

Officers from D District - Antrim, Carrickfergus, Lisburn and Newtownabbey - seized 33 lambs from a field in the Mallusk area.

“Enquires have revealed that the lambs had been in-situ for over three weeks and that their owner has yet to claim them,” a PSNI spokesperson said.

Police would appeal to anyone who may be able to identify the lambs and/or their owners to contact police at Lisburn on 0845 600 8000.”

The PSNI is advising farmers and owners of livestock to take the following precautions to prevent them from becoming a victim of crime:

• Ensure perimeter fencing is of good quality and is checked regularly.

• Ensure gates are locked with closed shackle padlocks.

• Livestock should be checked regularly.

• Records should be maintained of all flock along with their tag numbers.

• Report anything suspicious to the police on 0845 600 8000.
