Lammas Fair refund for 'light-headed' stall-holders

A STALL holder at the Lammas Fair was granted a £120 refund from Moyle Council after complaining about fumes coming from the exhaust of an ice-cream van.

The stall holder claims that the neighbouring ice-cream van, ran its engine which resulted in exhaust fumes blowing directly in to helpers at the stall who complained of feeling "nauseous and light headed".

In a letter to the Council the stall holder said: ‘As you are aware our allocated space ... didn’t work out for us. We had our stall set up and all in place by 9am as contracted. Due to overlapping of space in neighbouring sites however the ice-cream van, which arrived late, could not fit into the site beside us.

‘I believe it was well after 11am before this problem got sorted and then to our shock, we discovered that the ice-cream van would be running its engine all day with the exhaust blowing directly into us. After 30 minutes my wife and another person at our stall complained of feeling slightly nauseous and light headed.

‘We had absolutely no choice but to seek an alternative site. We were informed that the exact same problem had occurred last year at this site and it seems that this was why this site was available to us.

‘Fortunately, we were able to find an alternative site on private property as a vendor had not showed up. We had to pay more than 120 for the private site and we were advised by members of Moyle District Council that we would have to write to you to apply for a refund.

‘Considering that we had to set up our stall twice and lost over three hours of potential sales time we trust there will be no problems with receiving our full refund of 120,’ said the letter from the stall holder.
