Landlords received £1.5m of public money in NIHE rental payments

PRIVATE Londonderry landowners received almost £1.5m in public money last year in the form of rental payments from the Northern Ireland Housing Executive (NIHE).

Two hundred and ten private landlord properties were used by the Londonderry NIHE in 2011/12 to date resulting in a total estimated cost of £1,471,470, the Housing Minister Nelson McCausland revealed.

He was asked by Londonderry MLA Pat Ramsey how much the Housing Executive paid to private landlords for providing temporary accommodation.

In response the Minister revealed the figures for the local Housing Executive district office area.
