According to DUP Councillor Carla Lockhart, the initiative came about following negotiations from the party, local community representatives and the executive.

She said: “I believe it will really improve and enhance the aesthetics of the area and will help inspire and restore some community spirit and civic pride in the village. The stretch along the main road to the front of Alfred Terrace will be transformed with new planting, seating, wooden panelling and features.

“Myself and David Simpson MP along with local residents Bruce Kidd and Raymond McCoy have been negotiating with the Housing Executive for some time and I am delighted with the outcome. Often villages are the poor cousin where funding and spend from statutory authorities is concerned but with negotiations and hard work we have been able to work with the Housing Executive to develop this exciting plan for Dollingstown.”

Mr Simpson said: “This is a main arterial route to and from Lurgan and it is vitally important that the statutory authorities invest in the area. Dollingstown has grown significantly in population and we are duty bound to ensure it is an inviting and well kept area. We are working on resurfacing initiatives and will not cease until the entire village area has been transformed.”

The DUP pair paid tribute to the Housing Executive and to local residents Bruce Kidd and Raymond McCoy for their tireless efforts.
