Larchfield vehicle rally proves a great success

LARCHFIELD: The Community Development Association’s vintage vehicle rally, road run and family day out proved a huge success when a record number of vehicles were on display.

The rally was officially opened by Mr and Mrs Leslie Mackie from the nearby Larchfield Estate after which they took great delight in viewing the vehicles and machinery on display and talking to the visitors and exhibitors. Despite the inclement weather in the morning and a heavy shower at lunchtime the sun shone for most of the day which added to the enjoyment of the large crowd in attendance.

Great interest was shown in the threshing and bailing demonstrations, one in the morning and one in the afternoon, especially by a number of visitors from County Donegal and County Durham.

As usual, the children as well as their parents enjoyed seeing the various rare breeds of sheep, pigs, Clydesdales and poultry that were on show. Members of Lisburn Fire and Rescue Service had two tenders in attendance and they demonstrated the danger of unattended chip pans.

This year the association’s chosen charity is Lisburn Leo Talking Newspaper and the event’s committee wish to thank the patrons who took advertising space in the rally programme, the sale of which went to this charity.
