Large attendance at vintage rally

GOOD weather drew a large attendance of visitors and exhibitors to Larchfield Community Development Association’s recent Annual Vintage Vehicle Rally Road Run and Family Day Out.

From early morning vehicles of all kinds were arriving at the rally fields on the Windmill Road venue. Highlights of the day included an exhibition of a rare breed of sheep, threshing and bailing demonstrations, helicopter rides and display of daring feats by two young motor cross enthusiasts. There were two child friendly tractors and a digger for the younger ones. A marquee housed four exhibitions with artefacts and memorabilia relating to the centenary of the signing of the Ulster Covenant, the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee, the centenary of the tragic sinking of the Titanic and the Harry Ferguson Road show.

There was also a demonstration on the art of spinning wool and thread.

The association’s chosen charity, the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice, thank all those who supported their efforts and gave so generously. The rally was officially opened by Minister Edwin Edwin Poots and later in the day Mayor of Lisburn city Alderman William Leathem also paid a visit. The day ended with an unexpected fly past by the Red Arrows, the RAF’s display team who were attending the air display at Portrush on the same day.
