Large public sector strike action to take place this week

Those due to take part in the strike action include teachers, public transport workers, hospital staff and civil servants.

A rally at Guildhall Square will then start at 1pm on Friday, March 13 and will be preceded by a march from Altnagelvin Hospital starting at 12 noon.

It is expected that many private sector workers will join those public sector workers on strike at the rally.

Liam Gallagher, Regional Chair of trade union Unite said he understood people would be ‘inconvenienced’ but insisted that the unions have ‘the support of the public’.

He continued, “People need to think about the long term effects removing the disposable income of 20,000 workers will have on our local economy. We would urge the political parties at Stormont not to take jobs out of the economy and instead invest in strengthening the infrastructure.”
