Larne Art Club draws up a new season of activities

members of Larne Art Club are encouraging new faces to join them as they begin a new season of varied events and activities.

At the club’s recent AGM - at which the committee was elected for the incoming year - president Patricia Kay resumed her role.

“The club is healthy but, of course, continually striving to increase its lively membership. New blood is always welcome as we continue to develop and explore and enjoy the world of art.” she said.

“While many of our members work in watercolour, others paint in oil acrylic and experiment with mixed media creations. Our incoming season of events will provide an opportunity to get into painting and perhaps join with our membership as they work up towards our next exhibition in November.”

With Patricia Rapp and Eileen Polly re-elected to the posts of secretary and treasurer respectively. Larne Art Club will go forward with an enthusiastic team. The AGM, however, concluded on a sad note as Irene McCarlie stepped aside as the club’s press officer. Patricia Kay expressed the member’s sincere gratitude for her decade’s of dedicated service to Larne Art Club by presenting Irene with a beautiful gift,

The new club committee is:

President and chairperson: Mrs P. Kay; secretary Mrs P Rapp; assistant secretary: Mrs T. Karanousan; treasurer Mrs E. Polly. Programme organiser Mrs B. Maguire. General committee; Mr J. Nelson, Mrs F. Kemp, Mrs L. Davidson, Mrs S. Maxwell and Mrs A Haveron.

Louis Humphries opens the new season with the first of his two-part workshops on oil painting techniques on September 18. The second session is on Tuesday, September 25. Member’s classes with Philip Malcolm commence on Monday, September 24. The successful beginners’ sessions are again being held on Wednesdays, starting September 26.

All classes and workshops and meetings commence at 7.30pm and are held in Larne Museum and Arts Centre at the Carnegie building on Victoria Road.

The club’s key event is, of course, the forthcoming autumn exhibition. Opening on November 2 with the preview night, the exhibition of paintings then continues from November 5 through to 16. Further details will be published closer to the event.

Commencing in October and running through to June of next year, Larne Art Club will be organising a great array of workshops. These will feature a range of leading Irish artists demonstrating various techniques. Details of the club’s workshops and open evenings will be carried by this paper. They are as follows;
