Larne cornet player is top brass

A Larne teenager will be performing with the National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain at Easter.

Sixteen-year-old Sam Brodison, from Magheramorne, a cornet player, will take part in a course at Harrogate Ladies’ College in England.

Sam is a pupil at Carrickfergus Grammar School and a member of Ballyduff Silver Band.

The National Youth Brass Band of Great Britain was formed to give “exceptionally gifted young brass instrumentalists the opportunity to perform and receive the highest quality teaching”.

The course will conclude with two concerts at the University of Salford and Morley Town Hall. The conductor will be internationally-renowned Bramwell Tovey. The guest soloist will be James Fountain, principal trumpet of the Royal Philarmonic Orchestra.

Sam has also auditioned and qualified for the Ulster Youth Orhcestra on trumpet.

A ten-day course will take place at Greenmount College in August concluding with concerts at the Guild Hall, Londonderry and Ulster Hall, Belfast.
