Larne Council’s roadside shrine safety fears
Larne councillors have expressed concern about the proliferation of roadside “shrines” – the growing trend for families and friends of road tragedy victims to mark the spot where their loved ones died with floral tributes.
In some areas, more permanent memorials, including headstones, have been erected at the side of often busy roads, giving rise to saffety issues.
Ald Roy Beggs highlighted the increasing number of roadside tributes locally at a recent meeting of Larne Borough Council.

Hide AdCllr John Mathews proposed, Cllr Mark McKinty seconded and the council supported a resolution that the issue should be referred to the Northern Ireland Local Government Association (NILGA) for “consideration to this expanding problem”.
