The financial co-operative, of Circular Road, is now sporting a pink frontage in support of one of the world’s foremost cycle races which will pass through East Antrim on May 10.

The Northern Ireland Tourist Board has urged local communities to get on board for unprecedented international exposure as footage broadcast to millions of television viewers worldwide.

Billy Breen, secretary, of Larne Credit Union Limited, said: “The board of directors of Larne Credit Union decided that the Credit Union should become involved in the effort to show Larne at its best when the Giro d’Italia comes to town.

“Recognising that this is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity presented to the town, it has decided to decorate the front of the premises. It was felt that in keeping with the suggestion that we consider using the colour pink which is the colour of the leader’s vest, the Credit Union would feature pink as part of the overall scheme.

“Through research online and in consultation with the painting contractor, the Credit Union came up with the shade of pink which it hopes is as close as possible to the Giro colour.

“The Larne public and the many spectators anticipated for the stretch of Circular Road along which the Giro will pass can be the judges of how close the Credit Union was.

“In any event, the Credit Union hopes that the Larne public will enjoy the spectacle that the Giro promises to be and hopes that in some small way, the redecoration will add to their enjoyment.”
