Larne Grammar pupils celebrate best ever A Level results

This cohort, however, can claim their own little bit of history by securing the best ever set of results in the history of the school.

The improvement in A Level results has been an area of focus for the school during the course of the past four years.

With 82.5 per cent of pupils achieving three A*-C grades, the Department of Education’s key measure of performance, the school will score well above the NI Grammar School average, meaning that Larne Grammar School will have been one of the top performing schools in the country.

The highest performer in the year group was Paul Cameron, formerly of Linn Primary School, who achieved an incredible three A*s and one A grade in biology, mathematics, physics and chemistry. His fantastic results have enabled him to take up a place at Imperial College, London where he will study bioengineering.

A clearly delighted Paul said: “I keep checking the tracking for my university course because I can’t believe this has happened. It feels pretty incredible to get these results. I’m over the moon.”

A further six pupils achieved three A grades or better. Ellie Carmichael, Kiera McKay and Callum McRoberts all achieved one A* and two As while Emma Guy, Christie Miskelly and Natasha Rainey obtained 3 A grades. Sarah Armstrong was awarded two As and three Bs.

There was also success at AS Level where Emily Hill, Samuel Holst, BJ McFaul and Claire Shepherd were awarded four A grades. A further 11 pupils – Katy Aston, Toshko Bletsov, Ethan Campbell, Holly Campbell, Jack Carson, David Gilliland, Nathan Joel, Jonny McIlroy, Megan McIlwaine, Megan Roberts and Andrew Steward - gained three As and one B while Conliane Devlin and Lauren Linton were awarded three As and one C.

Commenting on the success of this year’s results, Principal Jonathan Wylie said: “Our A Level students have really excelled this year. To have achieved the best A Level results in the school’s history is a remarkable achievement and is a testament to the talent, ability and hard work of all of our pupils.

“The staff who have supported them throughout their time in the school are delighted with their success and we wish them as they move on to further study or employment.”
