Larne Grammar pupils excel in exams

Clare McKay – with an A* and three As – was the highest-achieving candidate and has been accepted into Edinburgh University to study medicine.

A further 12 students achieved at least three A grades. Craig Agnew was awarded one A*, two As and one C; Kim Hamilton two A*s and an A; while Scott McClelland, Kiera McGarry and David Murray all achieved one A* and 2 As.

Seven pupils – Zoe Buchanan, Louise Maxwell, Kirsten McCully, Sam McDonald, Tammy McNeilly, Scott Morris and Kathryn Perry – obtained straight A grades. Another eight students each achieved two As and one B.

If anything, the grammar school’s AS level results were even more impressive, with 59 per cent of entries awarded either an A or a B grade.

Amy Beggs, Stephanie Bradbury, Elizabeth Brown, Sarah Hunter and Aisling Madden each achieved four A grades and a further 15 pupils gained at least three A grades. In total, 76 per cent of Year 13 gained at least three A-C grades.

New principal, Jonathan Wylie, congratulated all the pupils on their exam success, saying: “These results are a true indication of the quality of education provided by Larne Grammar School and I congratulate all the pupils on the results they have achieved.

“Results this good do not happen by accident. Instead, they are the product of dedication, hard work and talent on the part of the pupils and staff of the school.

“I would also highlight the role that our parents have played in supporting their children through their 14 years of school.

“I would like to wish our Year 14 students all the best as they leave us to commence university or their chosen career. I look forward to hearing of their future successes.”
