Larne Grammar School Head Prefects appointed

Larne Grammar School has announced its selection of Head Prefects for the forthcoming academic year.

Each of those chosen were nominated by the staff due to their contribution to the academic and extra-curricular life of the school.

Eve Pijl, formerly of Cairncastle PS, has been appointed as Head Girl.

She is currently studying biology, business studies, English Literature and history at AS Level and hopes to study law at university.

In last year’s GCSE examinations Eve was awarded nine A*s and one A grade including being placed first in CCEA business studies.

As well as being a member of the school’s editorial team, Eve holds the position of managing director of the school’s Young Enterprise Company, ‘Serendipity’.

Discussing her appointment, Eve said: “I feel honoured to be the Head Girl of Larne Grammar School and I look forward to the challenges that lie ahead.”

Meanhile, Calum McKay, formerly of Larne and Inver PS, has been appointed as Head Boy. He currently studies biology, chemistry, maths and Spanish at AS Level and hopes to go on to university to read vetinary studies.

Calum’s eight A*s and two A grades at GCSE level last year included scoring full marks in mathematics.

He is a keen sportsman and is currently an integral member of the 1st XV rugby team and 1st XI cricket team.

As well as this, Calum has recently appeared in the school’s production of ‘The Sound of Music’.

On his appointment, Calum said: “I feel very proud and priveledged to be Head Boy of my school. Lets just hope that I do a good job.”

Next year Eve and Calum will be ably supported in their duties by Adam Campbell (Ballycarry PS), Jonny Barry (Toreagh PS), Jocelyn Hill (Kilcoan PS) and Melanie Hamilton (Linn PS) who have been appointed as their deputies.

Principal John Wylie was delighted to have appointed such outstanding candidates to these important roles.

He said: “I would like to congratulate our new Head Boy, Head Girl and deputies. The position of Head Prefect is the ultimate honour that the school can bestow on its pupils and members of the new team encapsulate all that is good about the pupils of Larne Grammar School.

“They are an excellent example to their peers. All of the staff and pupils of Larne Grammar wish to congratulate these pupils on their appointments.

“We all look forward to working with them in the year ahead.”

The first formal duty that the group will have to perform will be to meet the incoming Year 8 pupils at the induction evening in June.

However, the real task will begin after the summer break with a number of key engagements taking place in the winter term.
