Larne High students step up for MS funds challenge

Larne High School pupils have been commended for their “tremendous efforts” on behalf of people with multiple sclerosis (MS).

MS Schools Officer, Sarah Duff, visited the school last week for a special awards presentation.

Two hundred pupils took part in a Walk for MS at Carnfunnock Country Park in October and raised a fantastic total of £3,380 in aid of Action MS, Northern Ireland’s multiple sclerosis charity.

Commending the young people, Sarah said: “Thanks to the generosity and support of schools like Larne High School, the Walks for MS are at the core of Action MS support services.”

She added: “Action MS supports people living with multiple sclerosis, their families and carers in Northern Ireland. Larne High School really enjoyed their morning’s walk and we are very grateful for their generous support.”

Sarah told the students: “The Walks for MS first started 30 years ago and have directly helped Action MS develop its support from a listening-ear service to include support for children and families living with multiple sclerosis, support for young people, free legal advice and Digital Inclusion.”

Multiple Sclerosis is most likely to be diagnosed amongst women in their 20’s and 30’s. Northern Ireland has the second-highest rate of multiple sclerosis in the world. Almost 4,000 people have multiple sclerosis in Northern Ireland.
