The park was just one of the 43 green spaces in Northern Ireland who received the environmental accolade.

It is the second time that the site achieved the accreditation, which is the benchmark national standard for parks and green spaces in the United Kingdom.

Antrim Castle Gardens and Clotworthy House provided the perfect backdrop for this morning’s awards ceremony, led by environmental charity Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful in association with Heyn Waste Solutions.

For the 2015/16 season, Keep Northern Ireland Beautiful saw a continued increase in public parks, country parks, cemeteries and green spaces meeting the demanding standards.

The awards are judged every year by green space experts, who volunteer their time to visit applicant sites and assess them against eight strict criteria, including horticultural standards, cleanliness, sustainability and community involvement.
