Larne prepares to light up for Christmas time

The festive season is set to officially begin in Larne next weekend, with this year’s Christmas switch-on ceremony.

Flipping the switch this year will be actress Bronagh Waugh, who has starred in Hollyoaks, Miss Conception and most recently The Fall.

Bronagh is in Northern Ireland to provide mentoring to trainee filmmakers on a unique and ground-breaking Cinemagic educational film project, ‘A Christmas Star’, which involves hundreds of young people, in front of and behind the camera. (See page 3)

Everyone is invited to go along help make sure that both Bronagh and the evening’s other special guest – Santa – receive a very warm festive welcome in Larne.

The event gets underway at 6pm on Friday, November 21, with Christmas music at Broadway, followed by the parade of lanterns. The parade, led by the Major Sinclair Memorial Band, sets off from Quay Street at 6.45pm and heads along Main Street.

Children and their parents are invited to take part by bringing their own torches or light sticks and walking along behind the band.

Santa will join Larne Mayor, Councillor Martin Wilson and his guests at the bandstand to meet the parade as it reaches Broadway.
