Larne Scouts foster pride in the community

The 7th Larne Scout Group secured over £500 from the Housing Executive’s cohesion programme to stage the event, which marked the end of the week-long celebrations.

Representatives from Little Angels and Larne Adult Centre, who were given planters and a hanging basket, were also present. The community PSNI and Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service attended in their work vehicles to support the event.

The Scouts have worked with Larne Adult Centre to improve their main entrance by giving it a tidy up, painting railings and planting new bedding plants.

Inver Garden Centre provided the plants and the Scouts presented the centre with a hanging basket.

Larne Adult Centre will be presenting 7th Larne with a community trophy to encourage the young people to become more involved in community work.

As part of the new term programme, the Scouts are looking forward to first aid and self-defence classes.

The group is attending camp in Crawfordsburn this weekend, where they will work with the Catholic Guides’ Association of Ireland.

A quiz night will be held in Larne’s East Antrim Boat Club on Friday July 4, which will also be attended by members of Linn Scout Group and their families.

The Housing Executive’s Good Relations Officer Chris Davies said: “We were delighted to have funded the project which I hope will foster better community relations in Larne and build on the good work of the 7th Larne Scout Group.

Chairperson and Scout Leader of 7th Larne Scout Group Amanda O’Mahony added: “Young people and their family members were invited to the barbecue at the scout hall as a reward for their commitment throughout the year, bringing all sections of the community, including their wider families, together.

“The focus has been very much on the young people and the work they do in the community as well as raising the profile of scouting in the Larne area.

“The event has helped to create a positive opportunity to bring together the local community.”
