Larne Traders’ Forum Chairman complains to BBC over ‘I Love Larne’

The Chairman of Larne Traders’ Forum has written to the BBC to complain about the “True North: I Love Larne” documentary

Owner of Inver Garden Centre, John Shannon, condemned the programme for portraying Larne as ‘an uninteresting, bible thumping, boring town.’ In addition, Mr Shannon criticised the interviewer’s technique, and praised Larne as a “great town” with the lowest crime rate in Northern Ireland. He added that major local employers such as Caterpillar and Ledcom were not featured while “rubbish” claims that ‘half the town’s shops were shut’ were.

Upgrades to the Town Hall and Market Yard, the work of community groups and local educational establishments and major tourist attractions were also overlooked, he added. Mr Shannon dismissed the programme as ‘a waste of time and licence payers’ fee.”
