Larne violence: Charges thrown out of court

Charges have been dropped against two men accused of affray and possessing an offensive weapon following trouble in Larne last weekend.

The pair were arrested in connection with an incident on Saturday, March 29.

It is believed to have been linked to the violence on Sunday, March 30, when police, residents and a number of homes in Ferris Avenue and Knockdhu Park were attacked. The PSNI has blamed the attacks on the UDA’s south-east Antrim brigade.

Ballymena Magistrates’ Court was told there was no evidence to connect the men to the offences.

Although the charges were withdrawn, the police said they were still proceeding by way of a report to the Public Prosecution Service.
