Larne wildlife group holds nature events

The programme of free events kicks off on July 16 with the building of feeder boxes for red squirrels in Glynn Community Hall from 11am-1pm.

On July 24, a litter pick and walk will take place in the Magheramorne Area/Blue Circle Oxygen Therapy building from 11am-1pm.

Then, on July 30, there will be bumblebee hide making in Glynn Community Hall from 11am-1pm.

Glynn Community Hall will also be the venue for wildflower planting on August 6 from 11am-1pm.

Then, on August 13, why not come along to Glynn Community Hall from 11am-1pm, when you will have the opportunity to build a barn owl box, birds’ nest box, swift box or a hedgehog house.

A second litter pick and walk will be held on August 20 from 11am-1pm, meeting at Home Bargains’ car park and covering the Larne town area.

The following day, August 21, come along to Ballygally Community Hall to take part in a nature and art paint and decorate session from 11am-1pm.

On August 27, the group is offering the chance to build and decorate a bug hotel at Glynn Community Hall from 11am-1pm.

Then, on September 3, a night lecture event on hedgerow management and breeding birds will be taken by PHD student Siobhan Porter in Ballygally Community Hall from 7pm-9pm.

A third litter pick and walk will take place on September 4 from 11am-1pm, meeting in Glynn at the path at the train station.

The programme of events will round off with a night lecture on the ecology of otters by the DOE’s Declan Looney on September 8.

This will take place in Ballygally Community Hall from 7pm-9pm.

For all activities, children under 15 must be accompanied by an adult.

Please wear suitable outdoor clothing and shoes.
