Larne woman appointed to safefood post

LARNE woman, Julie Andrews, has been appointed to the advisory board of safefood, the all-island body responsible for promoting healthy eating and food safety.

Ms Andrews, who is chief executive of the Spectrum Centre, a Belfast-based community arts and culture venue, joins eight other new board members on the 12-person board, including those from the catering, health promotion and community sectors.

A graduate of Queen’s University, Belfast, Ms Andrews has an educational background in law and accountancy and extensive experience in many sectoral areas including property development, the arts and technology industries.

Appointed by the North South Ministerial Council, the new board will support safefood’s chief executive, Mr Martin Higgins in his work and provide advice on strategic matters relating to food produced and consumed on the island of Ireland.

Commenting on the appointments, Mr Higgins said: “The world of dietary health and food safety is a complex one, requiring multi-disciplinary expertise. Each member of our new advisory board brings a wealth of knowledge and experience from their respective fields, which will undoubtedly prove beneficial to safefood’s work in improving public health on the island”.
