Larne Writer’s Group offers support to the borough’s aspiring poets and authors

If you are interested in writing, Larne Writer’s Group could be just for you.

The group was created to help aspiring authors, poets and scriptwriters in and around the Larne area to define their goals and offer support.

A chance meeting at an out- of-town literary gathering brought founder members, Stephen Gordon and Gary and Margaret Ferguson together.

The seeds of Larne Writer’s Group were quickly sown and gradually a local literary circle was expanded.

Now, and with the support of Caffe Spice and Larne Borough Council, the group has been formalised into a regular gathering of same minded folk.

It covers a wide range of genres and includes both published and aspiring authors and poets.

Fiction, non-fiction, memoir, poetry and screenwriting are but a few of the topics covered at their regular afternoon gatherings.

Larne Writer’s Group, which remains a free service, is a supporter of arts in the community and has recently created closer links with the John Hewitt Society.

Meetings run from 2pm to 4pm on the first and third Saturday of the month.

The main venue is upstairs at Caffe Spice, opposite the Larne Town Hall in Upper Cross Street.

Stephen Gordon said: “New writers are always welcome.”

Anyone who would like more information on the group, or to follow this month’s story, is invited to go to the group’s website where a showcase of members’ work is also published: www.larnewritersgroup.com

A selection of work from some members of the group is also on view on the Larne Times website Chatterbox section - www.larnetimes.co.uk
