Lashed out at parked car after argument with mum and sister

After an argument involving his mother and sister a 32-year-old man lashed out and caused over £900 worth of damage to a parked car.

Patrick John Maughan, Birchdale Manor, Lurgan, appeared by way of videolink last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court from Maghaberry prison.

He admitted criminal damage to a car on March 8, 2014, and was sentenced to three months in prison.

The court heard that at approximately 4pm in William Street, Lurgan, a male was causing a disturbance.

Maughan was seen on CCTV kicking the nearside of a parked vehicle.

The defendant appeared to be intoxicated and there was a large dent in the front nearside of the vehicle. It cost £942.84 to repair the damage.

A barrister representing the defendant said that on this occasion he had just been released from custody.

He added that Maughan met his mother and his sister and there was an argument. He lashed out at a parked car.

The barrister said the defendant had a difficulty with alcohol.
