Last chance for man who became abusive to police while drunk

A 22-year-old man who was causing a nuisance in the early hours of the morning in Banbridge became aggressive with police who arrived on the scene, the local court has heard.

Ryan Ringland, Beechlands, Banbridge, admitted disorderly behaviour and resisting a constable on October 5 last year when he appeared last Thursday at the local magistrates’ court.

For each offence he was fined £200 and he was also ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

Ringland was bound over in the sum of £500 for two years to keep the peace and be of good behaviour.

The court heard that at 2.15am police received a report of a disturbance at a fast food restaurant at Newry Street in Banbridge.

A member of the public said Ringland had been causing a nuisance in the area.

He became aggressive towards police and was warned about his language.

After saying ‘f****** pussy’ to an officer he continued to call police abusive names.

When arrested he struggled and had to be brought to the ground where he was handcuffed before being placed in the police vehicle.

A solicitor representing Ringland said he had been out with friends and was obviously intoxicated.

He added that he defendant accepted his language was unnecessary, unacceptable and unsavoury.

District Judge, Mr Paul Copeland, told Ringland he was no stranger to the justice system.

“If you appear again in this court for street crime like disorderly behaviour, assault on or resisting police you will be in deep trouble.

“This is a last opportunity for you,” added Judge Copeland.
