Last service in old church

WITH construction of a new church building at Maze Presbyterian about to begin, the final service of worship in the old building was held on Sunday night (May 5).

While many church members have expressed sadness at the end of the old familiar building on the Kesh Road site, there is the positive note in that the new building will meet the need established by the continuing growth of the congregation.

Sunday’s service was an occasion of looking back and giving thanks for the blessings of the past, recalling many memories of significant events and milestones. Familiar words from Psalm 122 were sung, as they had been when the foundation stone of the church was laid back in 1857 by the Marquis of Downshire.

The Rev William Henry spoke about the work to be done over the next year, while the church was being built, and beyond, based on Jesus’ familiar parable of the Talents. From next Sunday while the building work continues worship will be held in the church Hall
