Late discharge for 7 patients

A LACK of home help capacity resulted in the late discharge of seven patients from acute hospitals in the Western Trust last month, it has been revealed.

Incapacity also meant one person in the Western Trust was waiting at home for a care package at December 31; there were 27 people waiting across Northern Ireland.

Health Minister Edwin Poots revealed seven patients were discharged from an acute hospital setting during January 2012 in the Western Trust after waiting longer than the agreed maximum waiting time due to no capacity in domiciliary care providers.
