Latest: Alleged burglar arrested after helicopter search

Coleraine detectives have charged a 51-year-old man with four counts of burglary, driving whilst disqualified, no insurance and going equipped for theft.

The charges are in relation to three counts of burglary in the Coleraine area.

These incidents took place residential premises at the Laurelhill Road, Coole Green and Kylemore Road areas on Tuesday, October 7.

The accused was also charged with a distraction burglary offence at residential premises at the Erinvale, Armoy, area on the same day.

Detective Chief Inspector Catherine Magee said: “The arrest was made after local residents gave police a description of the vehicle in the area at the time. The vehicle was tracked to the Doagh area during an operation involving by a police helicopter and the arrest made.

“The man was arrested on the evening of the report of the burglary, Tuesday, October 7 and charged by detectives on the night of Wednesday, October 8.

“I would take this opportunity to again encourage neighbours to look out for each other. In this instance, police received a call from a member of the public with a good description of a vehicle. This greatly helped us to make the arrest. “
