Inspector Swan said: “Twenty three year Jayne Burnside from Cookstown died after being struck by a vehicle on Gortagammon Road, Tullyhogue just before 1 am this morning, Saturday 11 April.

“I am continuing to appeal to anyone who was travelling on this road between midnight and 1.00am this morning and who may have seen anyone walking along this road or may have witnessed this incident to contact Police at Cookstown on the non-emergency number 101.”

Mid Ulster MLA Ian McCrea expressed his sympathy.

“When we hear of any fatal traffic accident, it fills us with a deep sence of tragidy, but in the case of Jayne Burnside who was only 23 years old, Mid Ulster will be united in grief at the loss of someone so young and in such tragic circumstances.”

The DUP man added: “I would like to assure the family of my heart felt sympathy and they will be very much in my thoughts and prayers at this difficult time.”
