Latest: No arrests after ‘men armed with iron bars’ fight in Cookstown

Police have made no arrests following reports that “three or four men armed with iron bars” were fighting at a premises in Cookstown.

The incident, which took place at around 1.35am on Molesworth, had been resolved by the time tactical support officers arrived at the scene according to the PSNI.

A spokesperson told the Mail: “At approximately 1.35am, police received a report of three or four men armed with iron bars in a premises in the Molesworth Street area of Cookstown. They were threatening each other.

“When police arrived three minutes later, the matter had been resolved and there was no sign of any iron bars.”

PSNI Cookstown first reported the incident at around 3.10am.

Also in the town officers handed out three fixed penalty notices for driving offences, while in nearby Dungannon, police reported having to call in tactical support group officers to deal with an incident in town, and also enlisting the help of youth outreach workers to deal with youths drinking near Tesco.

Over the course of the 24-hour exercise the PSNI as a whole received 1,579 calls for service, had 50 people in custody, looked for 38 missing people, dealt with several breaches of electronic tags and charged two men with drugs offences.

Some calls were less serious than others.

“Just received a 999 call, male singing “Hello, is it me you’re looking for”, not believed to be Lionel Ritchie. Hindering #KeepingPeopleSafe,” they said on Twitter.
