Latest police statistics show drop in crime

OVERALL crime is down and detection rates are improving, according to the PSNI's latest figures for the Newtownabbey area.

The statistics, released ahead of the next District Policing Partnership public meeting on May 26 in Carnmoney, show a four per cent drop in crime during the last financial year.

Announcing the figures, PSNI Area Commander, Chief Inspector Paula Hilman, said that she and her officers have worked hard to reduce crime and improve their detection rates.

The annual crime figures for 2009/10 show a reduction of 182 crimes (4%) compared to 2008/09. And during 2009/10, a total of 281 (7.4%) more crimes were cleared than in the previous year.
