Latest: Taxi hi-jacked and driver hit on the head in Dungannon

A police hunt is underway after a taxi bus was hijacked and the driver assaulted in the Bovean Road area.

Police said the vehicle was later set alight after it was taken in the early hours of Thursday, [Aug 7].

Detective Inspector Will Tate said: “It was reported that a taxi driver had picked up four passengers – two men and two females – in the Banbridge area and was travelling along the Bovean Road in Dungannon shortly before 1.30am when he was asked to stop the vehicle for a comfort break at the side of the road.

“The driver stopped the vehicle and was then hit on the side of the head and pulled from the car, before the vehicle was taken. The grey Hyundai car was later found on the Annaghbeg Road and had been set alight.
