Latest: Thirty detectives probe murder of Castledawson man James McDonagh

Police investigating the weekend murder of Castledawson man James McDonagh have been given an additional 36 hours to quiz a 41-year-old man arrested on Tuesday morning in connection with the incident.

A detective from the serious crime branch investigating the murder of 28 year old Mr McDonagh outside the Elk nightclub on the Hillhead Road in the early hours of Sunday, told Magherafelt Magistrates Court today that the investigation was extensive involving between 25 and 30 detectives.

The court heard the 41-year-old suspect was arrested yesterday morning and taken to Musgrave Police Station for questioning.

The detective said they required more time to continue their interviews.

He revealed they were also awaiting a post mortem to take place on Mr McDonagh which had been expected to take place yesterday.
