Latest: Two arrested as major police raid in Magherafelt uncovers £40K of cannabis

A massive haul of suspected cannabis worth an estimated £40,000 has been seized in Magherafelt.

Two men were arrested in connection the seizure of suspected cannabis in the Castledawson Road area of the town on Friday evening [Feb 27].

A PSNI spokesperson said the seizure was the result of an operation by detectives from F District’s Tactical Crime Unit and Dungannon Crime Team.

“Two cars, three mobile phones and the quantity of drugs, believed to be worth an estimated £40,000, were seized,” the spokesperson said.

“Further searches were carried out at two houses in the Magherafelt and Cookstown area. Cash, documents, a mobile phone and drug paraphernalia were seized in these searches.

“The two men, aged 43 and 39, were both arrested on suspicion of possession of a class B controlled drug and possession of a class B controlled drug with intent to supply.”

Both men currently remain in custody assisting police with their enquiries.

Inspector Andy Archibald said: “Police are committed to tackling the issue of drugs. We have and will continue to put in place dedicated resources to identify individuals involved and bring them to justice. We will continue to work to keep people safe.

“I would ask anyone with any information connected to drugs to contact their local police on the non emergency number 101. Alternatively information can be provided anonymously through the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.”
