Latest: Two women injured in Cookstown crash now '˜out of hospital'

A lady in her sixties had to removed from her car on a back-board following the two-vehicle RTC near Kildress filling station.

The incident, which occurred just after 8am, was reported to both police and the fire service, who used hydraulic cutting equipment to free the 63-year-old before she was transported to hospital.

It is understood the driver of the other car was a woman in her late twenties - and she too was taken to hospital for treatment, but was able to get out of her vehicle unaided.

A Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service spokesperson added: “Northern Ireland Fire & Rescue Service (NIFRS) received a call at 8.07am to a report of a two vehicle road traffic collision at the Drum Road area of Cookstown on Wednesday 9 March.

“One Fire Appliance from Cookstown Fire Station and one Fire Appliance from Dungannon Fire Station were deployed to the scene. “One female was out upon arrival of Firefighters from the first car, while a woman in her 60s was removed by Firefighters from the second car using hydraulic cutting equipment and a spinal board. Both women were taken to a nearby hospital for their injuries.”
