Cookstown missionary Maud Kells, who was shot by bandits in DR Congo just days after being awarded an OBE, is now “up and walking about” a colleague has said.

The 75-year-old, who has been working as both a missionary and a nurse in the country since 1968, was shot once whilst at home late on January 4 - not twice as previously reported.

The brave midwife is understood to be in pain, but doing well.

Philip Crooks - Maud’s colleague at WEC International - said she had to have a blood transfusion after the attack.
