Launch of Purple Turnip Festival

There will be fun for all the family at Lisburn’s Purple Turnip Festival at Castle Gardens.

The festival will take place on Saturday November 1, from 11.00 am until 4.00 pm and all activities are free.

Enjoy kids’ entertainment including animal encounters, creative craft workshops, “party professor” science displays, face painting, outdoor games and donkey rides.

Join in the hunt as 20 “purple turnips” take up residence in Castle Gardens; find the turnips and be in with a chance of winning a great prize.

Helping launch the festival were pupils from Tonagh Primary School.

Alderman Allan Ewart, vice-chairman, Lisburn City Centre Management, said: “Local schoolchildren have been getting creative in the lead up to the Purple Turnip Festival and the drawing competition entries will be on display in the marquee at Castle Gardens.

“Lisburn is the perfect place for a family day out and I encourage everyone to come along and enjoy the Purple Turnip Festival.”

Alderman Paul Porter, chairman Lisburn City Council’s Leisure Services Committee, continued: “The Purple Turnip Festival is now in its sixth year and leisure services are proud to contribute to this event through the Community Festivals’ Fund. There’s something for all the family to enjoy at Castle Gardens.”

Lisburn City Centre Management is encouraging everyone to come dressed in their best fancy dress costume as there will be spot prizes for the best dressed.

Get up close and personal with a wide range of “spooky” exotic animals, if you’re brave enough and experience an “enchanted” autumn market where you will find fresh produce from local suppliers and hand-crafted goods.
