Lay down on ground and screamed

After he was put out of a bar in Portadown a 26-year-old man lay down on the ground and started screaming at the top of his voice when police arrived.

Gary Patrick Anthony McNally, whose address was given as Baltylum Meadows, Portadown, was fined £200 last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for disorderly behaviour on August 29 this year.

He was also fined £100 for assault on a police officer and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy.

The court heard that at 12.30am police officers were called to attend the Tunnel bar in Portadown where the defendant had been put out because of he had been aggressive with other patrons.

When police arrived on the scene the defendant was being restrained against a wall by a female staff member.

McNally began to shout and swear and then lay down in the road, screaming at the top of his voice.

While on the way to the custody suite the defendant spat on the left hand side of the face of the arresting police officer.

A solicitor representing McNally said he had absolutely no memory if his behaviour which was that of a ‘drunken lunatic’.

He had a problem with alcohol.
