Lead up to the Twelfth

WITH just a few days to go till the Twelfth demonstration in Lurgan there are a host of events planned in the run up.

Brownlow House will play host to an Ulster Scots outdoor concert tonight (Thursday) with music by Rising Stour and Indigo and dancing by Kelly Jordan.

The Harold McCusker Memorial Cup Lambeg drumming competition takes place on Friday at 8pm. There will also be a fun night at the rear of Brownlow House with children's games and activities and a firework display at 10.30pm.

Saturday, July 10, sees family fun days at Mourneview, Avenue Road and Queen Street community centres.

The annual Boyne Commemoration Service takes place in Shankill Parish Church on Sunday, July 11.

On the Twelfth itself Lurgan District, accompanied by the County Grand Officers and members of the local victims' group, will hold a short act of remembrance at the War Memorial in the town centre at 8am.

The District Lodge will then continue via Market Street, Church Place and around the back of the church, before making its way back through the town to meet up with the rest of the County Grand Lodge at Russell Drive. The Parades Commission has prohibited the march from entering William Street.

The main parade will begin at Russell Drive, before heading to Mourne Road, Pollock Drive, Gilford Road, Flush Place, Queen Street, High Street, Market Street, turning at Carnegie Street, Market Street, Windsor Avenue and then on to the field at Brownlow House. Platform proceedings will begin at 1.45pm.

The return parade will make its way along Windsor Avenue, High Street, Queen Street, Flush Place, and the Gilford Road.

Buses will be lined along the Gilford Road.

A free car park will be provided in Lurgan Park with access from Moira using the M1 and the Avenue Road entrance.

Vehicles that approach Lurgan with the official buses will be filtered out at Gibson’s Hill (Corcreaney) and asked to park at Lurgan Rugby Club. Vehicles without the correct passes will not be permitted to enter the New Line part of the bus approach route, and asked instead to park at Lurgan Rugby Club.

No vehicles will be permitted to enter Brownlow House.
