l All pupils from P1 – P7 enjoy learning Spanish through fun games and action songs with tutor Elena Ballesteros and/or Miss Emma Funston (P4 Teacher)

l KS2 pupils look forward to French lessons both with Muriel D’Oria, the French assistant and with their class teachers.

l P2 – P4 children enjoy fundamental skills with Stefan, the IFA coach as part of DENIs initiative to increase physical literacy.

l A lot of opportunities are created for children to engage in both indoor and outdoor play at Cumber Claudy Primary School. The latter is facilitated by a recently developed playground featuring two climbing frames, a sand pit, cycle track, outdoor classroom, play trail, picnic tables/benches, a water feature, seating, large pieces of sensory/musical equipment, two playhouses/workshops

l Creativity is nurtured at Cumber Claudy Primary School through a variety of art, craft, dance, drama and practical music-making activities

l KS1 choir were outstanding in the recent Christmas Pantomime and they thoroughly enjoy entertaining parents and friends at shows and assemblies throughout the year.

l KS2 choir has a full schedule throughout the year with school shows, public performances and cross-community events

l WELB peripatetic teachers provide brass and strings tuition for a number of KS2 pupils

l ICT Accreditation – all pupils are encouraged to develop and enhance their ICT skills, well supported by provision of: -

1) Interactive whiteboards in each classroom

2) ICT suite fully equipped with PCs and laptops and Interactive Whiteboard

3) Digital cameras in every classroom

Those children with Special Needs are identified and supported with curriculum access and inclusion provided for pupils of all abilities.

At Cumber Claudy Primary School there is very good attention to promoting healthy eating and physical exercise e.g. effective links between catering and teaching staff , while organic gardening and cookery clubs encourage the children to adopt healthy lifestyles.

A very dedicated and hardworking PTFA meet regularly throughout the year and organise many exciting events to help raise school funds. Open communication and committed partnership between parents and teachers has very positive impact on the pupils which helps maintain the positive, child-centred learning environment which is at the heart of Cumber Claudy Primary School.

Parents are always welcome and good parent/staff relationships are evident on a daily basis as parents are encouraged to become actively involved in the life of the school.

Pupils and staff benefit from the close links maintained with local playgroups, primary schools and colleges in the area and a strong sense of community spirit is clearly evident.
