Leathem tipped for top post at Council

LISBURN City Council will hold its Annual General Meeting on Friday afternoon (June 1) when the members will elect a new Mayor.

It is expected that the current DUP Deputy Mayor, Alderman William Leathem, who represents Lisburn North, will take the top post.

The DUP are also expected to take the position of Deputy Mayor again this year, with speculation that Councillor Margaret Tolerton will be nominated by her party.

Mrs Tolerton, a former Chair of Lisburn District Policing Partnership, represents Dunmurry Cross and would be the first female Deputy Mayor for over a decade.

There are expected to be few changes in the make up of the various council committees and it is anticipated that the Committee Chairmen will all remain in their current posts.

The current committee chairmen are - Planning Services Alderman James Tinsley, Corporate Services Councillor Stephen Martin, Economic Development Alderman Jim Dillon, Environmental Services Councillor Andrew Ewing, Leisure Services Councillor Thomas Beckett and Strategic Policy Councillor Arder Carson.

The AGM will be held at the Civic Centre at 12noon.
