Leave tweeting to the birds

DO you Tweet? Tweet used to be a word associated with little birds enjoying their early morning flight. Tweet and Twitter are now buzz words and if you don't tweet you are out of sync with today's E world.

Television, radio and other ‘personalities’ are all busy Tweeting as a way of advancing their careers and getting instant reaction. In fact these thoughts were probably prompted by recent news that England's cricketers have been warned to be more careful when using Twitter.

Tweet and Blog are both opportunities to lay your soul bare and write what you think about current issues in your life. That in itself is fine – but then you share these thoughts with the world through the Internet. Does everyone need to know or does everyone even want to know?

In Christian terms keeping a journal has been enjoying a resurgence in popularity. In this you are encouraged to jot down blessings from your prayer and bible study and any new thoughts and revelations to encourage you in your journey with God. These are a personal confidential record rarely shared with other people.

Psalm 46 verse 1-2 says ”God is our refuge and strength an ever-present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear.” [NIV]

Eugene Peterson in his Message Paraphrase re-words these verses like this: “God is a safe place to hide, ready to help when we need Him”. We can bring all our thoughts and concerns to God and to trusted valued friends Pastors or Church leaders – safe in the knowledge that they are not shared.

Perhaps we should really leave the ‘tweeting’ to the birds!
