LED lights needed at Carrick playground says PUP representative

A Progressive Unionist Party representative in Carrick has called for improved security at the Marine Gardens playground following another vandalism attack.

Jonathan Cooke was speaking after panels of the pirate ship were damaged and glass was smashed at the park’s retail unit.

Mr Cooke claimed that there is activity in the park during the early hours of the morning.

He indicated that a CCTV system which was installed last year is not suitable and he said that LED style lights would be more effective.

He has also suggested that a board featuring a local contact number for concerned citizens to report vandalism would mean that action would be taken more quickly.

Vandalism is an ongoing issue at the playground.

Last month, bolts in the zip line appeared to have been removed deliberately.

Four pieces of equipment were smashed, just two months ago. Previous incidents have included the destruction of a trampoline for disabled children.
