Legal advice on dual signage

A policy and procedure document specifically dealing with dual language street signs is presently being prepared.

At Thursday night’s council meeting Cllr Phillip McGuigan proposed that Council officers develop a dual language street sign policy. This was seconded by Cllr Sean McGlinchey.

Cllr Orla Beattie asked the Chief Executive, David Jackson: “What happens if a current dual language sign gets damaged will this council replace it?

“And if streets beside neighbouring areas, which currently have dual language signs, decide they would like them too what are they going to be told?”

Chief Executive David Jackson said this was all part of the legal advice that Causeway Coast and Glens Council was currently considering.

A vote was taken on Cllr McGuigan’s proposal with 14 voting in favour and 23 voting against.
