Legal proceedings recommended after 9-year-old attacked by terriers

A NINE-YEAR-OLD girl was attacked by two Staffordshire Bull Terriers as she entered the driveway to her Gobnascale home on Monday, September 2011, according to the latest report of Derry City Council’s Chief Environmental Health Officer.

In his report to the Council Environmental Services Committee the officer recommended instigating legal proceedings against the 17-year-old owner of the dogs.

He stated: “On Monday, September 20, 2011 a nine year old girl in the Gobnascale area was attacked by two Staffordshire Bull Terriers as she entered the driveway to her home.

“The girl sustained serious injuries from the two stray dogs that were later identified as belonging to a 17 year old male juvenile.

“The dogs were voluntarily surrendered and humanely destroyed. The dogs were unlicensed and straying at the time of the attack and I therefore request legal proceedings be instigated against the owner of the dogs.”
