Dromara Destroyers Brian Reid and Ray McCullough joined Council representatives at Lagan Valley LeisurePlex in Lisburn to promote the return of this popular motorcycle show, which attracted thousands of people through the doors of the LeisurePlex last year.

Alderman Allan Ewart, Chairman of the Council’s Development Committee, said: “Over the past two years this event has been extremely popular with large numbers visiting each show. Given the interest there is in the iconic Dromara Destroyers, the new Council was delighted to support this 2015 event.

“The Dromara Destroyers were a formidable force in motorbike road racing and bikes and racing memorabilia plus many of the Dromara Destroyers super-bikers will be at the Motorcycle Show. This will allow people of all ages to find out a little history about this golden age of road racing. Due to such a long standing support of motorcycle sport we are really delighted to have such a popular motorcycle take place in one of our flagship facilities.”

The Show will open at 5.00pm on Friday 13th November and close at 10.00pm. It will run the following day, Saturday 14th November from 10.00am to 5.00pm. Admission is a minimum entry cost of £5 per person.

Alderman Paul Porter, Chairman of the Council’s Leisure & Community Development Committee, added: “There is a strong support for sport within the Council area. We are pleased to support this local racing group in any way we can with its fundraising efforts. We would encourage everyone to come along to this one-off exhibition and view the racing memorabilia and talk to the Dromara Destroyers about their experiences.”

One of the key people involved in organising the event is Dromara Destroyer Brian Reid who visited Lagan Valley Island. Brian Reid, a Dromara Destroyer, explains: “Almost three years ago a liked minded group of ardent road racing fans met with the residents of Dromara Village with the idea to honour their famous sons with a tribute in the village. The fans have been working very hard fundraising for the tribute and the generosity of the public has been great.

“The latest fundraising event is the Dromara Destroyers Motorcycle Show and I would urge anyone with an interest in motorbike racing to come along. I would like to take this opportunity to thank our generous sponsors Stoneyford Concrete, Mar-train Racing, Maxwell Freight, Rea Sawmills, Lisburn & Castlereagh City Council and Rea Timbercraft.

“We are asking for a minimum donation of £5 per person entry into the show and this will go a long way in the efforts of the groups fundraising. This year’s nominated charity is the Northern Ireland Children’s Hospice.”
