Legenderry cycle challenge

The format for the tour is simple: 100 cyclists, a £10 entry fee, the commitment to raise a minimum of £100.

Riders can cycle with former professional Ronan McLaughlin on the tour, which starts and finishes at the White Horse Hotel, with a ride to Magilligan Point, a ferry crossing and then a picturesque return along the coast to the hotel for lunch.

Cyclists participating in the 50-mile Legenderry ride, which is sponsored by the Donnelly Group, will be raising money to help fund medical research into conditions affecting babies and children. Action Medical Research has been funding medical breakthroughs since it began in 1952. The charity is currently supporting work around childhood cancer, Down syndrome, epilepsy, and cystic fibrosis, as well as some rare and distressing conditions that severely affect children.

The School of Biomedical Sciences, at the University of Ulster, is currently involved in a study Action Medical Research is funding which is investigating whether children with Down syndrome would benefit from bifocal glasses. Dr Maggie Woodhouse, of Cardiff University, who is leading the research, hopes to discover more about how bifocals improve the vision of children with Down syndrome and their ability to explore the world around them.
