Leisure centre staff shed Brenda!

STAFF at the Joey Dunlop Leisure Centre in Ballymoney have taken a lot of their minds - and their waistlines - in recent weeks.

In fact, a fat-busting magnificent seven shed an impressive eight stones between them - the equivalent of nutritionalist Brenda Boyle who was on-hand to oversee their venture.

Under Brenda’s guise, the seven volunteers - who all work at the centre - embarked on a tailored fitness and nutrition programme over a 12 week period.

And the results are clear for all to see.

Brenda told the Times all seven said they had thoroughly enjoyed the three month scheme and all had pledged to continue their healthy ways in the future.

“They all had their own individual weight targets and whoever reached their target and got the highest percentage over their target weight lost won 100,” Brenda told the Times.

“Peter Shields was the winner of the last 12 weeks – his target was 19lbs – less than 1.5 stones but he lost 26lb which was 2lb off 2 stone!”

The group - Amanda McComb, Suzzane Rollins, Benny Knight, Melanie Archibald, Sammy Montgomery, Orla McGrath and Peter - completed food planners every week and were watched closely by Brenda, a fully qualified nutritional therapist.

They were given an exercise and nutrition goal every week which by the end was a lifestyle change for all.

“The club was extremely successful,” said Brenda.

“They had fun and a good laugh while participating.”

The next twelve weeks will be maintenance for some of the group and it will be stones off for others.

Five new staff members have joined the club for the next 12 weeks.

Brenda has encouraged members of the public interested in adopting a healthier lifestyle to contact her for advice and assistance.
