Leisure report posted on web

THOSE interested in the future of Craigavon's in-door leisure can find a summary of the report on provision on Craigavon Borough Council's website www.craigavon.gov.uk

The 18 page summary report contains the main recommendation and the reasons for it as made by independent consultants Mace appointed by Council to undertake an in-depth examination of the current and future of indoor leisure services within Craigavon.

The recommendation is that Council build a super single leisure centre to replace Cascades, Waves and Craigavon Leisure Centre adjacent to the South Lake.

At a special meeting of the leisure services committee, Council members accepted the recommendation which is now due to go before a full meeting of Council in April.

“The report contains all the detailed information,” said Chair of the Leisure Services Committee, Councillor Mary McAlinden, “including supply and demand, public consultation, the economic appraisal, the next steps and the timeline.

“I would urge those who took the time to take part in the consultation to have a look at the report. They will see that there are a number of steps that have to be taken before people will see a new leisure centre in 2015. In the meantime Cascades, Waves and Craigavon Leisure Centre remain open and ready for customers”.

If people cannot access the website but still want a copy of the report they should contact Colin Baines at the Lough Neagh Discovery Centre on 3831 1692.
